What to record before bed bug treatment

Understand what observations help with a bed bug enquiry and why moving belongings before a plan is agreed can complicate preparation.

Record signs on the furniture

Visible insects, shed skins or spotting around a bed or seating can be useful observations. Skin marks alone do not identify bed bugs. Keep a note of exactly where the evidence was found.

Avoid moving the problem between rooms

EPA guidance advises against moving items from an infested room into an unaffected one. Before carrying bedding, bags or furniture elsewhere, ask for instructions that match the assessment or treatment.

Make preparation workable

Explain limited storage, heavy furniture and any difficulty getting to the bed edges. The aim is a practical plan for the actual room, not a generic demand to empty the property.

Agree how follow-up works

Confirm the rooms included, any return visits and how new evidence should be reported. In a managed building, clarify who passes the instructions to occupants.
